This course is for anyone aged 19 or over who already holds a hackney carriage or private hire driver local authority licence.

This course is ideal for hackney carriage or private hire drivers wishing to update their knowledge and skills.

The key elements of this course are:

• health and safety and driving safety
• customer service
• vehicle maintenance
• regulatory framework
• providing assistance, including wheelchair assistance
• transporting luggage and other items
• transporting children safely
• processing fares
• route planning

You must have a taxi or private hire vehicle to carry out observations.

A wheelchair accessible vehicle, wheelchairs and safety equipment will be provided to carry out a practical wheelchair element of the course.

You can progress further in the sector by applying for an Operators licence.
